Sometimes the issue is not that God has been silent.
Sometimes the answer requires courage, so we keep asking the question another way.
If you have prayed, tested the direction against Scripture, listened to wise counsel, looked at the facts, and the same faithful step is still in front of you, you may not need another sign. You may need to move.
Do not confuse fear with a need for more clarity. Test what you believe you heard. Then take the smallest faithful step you can take today.
Why do we keep asking for another sign?
Because asking feels safer than acting.
Asking lets you stay in the place where nothing has failed yet. Nobody has laughed. Nobody has said no. You have not had to charge money, show your work, make the call, or admit that you are really doing this.
So you pray again.
You watch another sermon. You ask another friend. You save another video. You wait for a sentence in the sky with your name spelled correctly.
Meanwhile, the step has not changed.
Prayer is not the problem. Wise counsel is not the problem. Planning is not the problem. The problem is using good things to protect yourself from the obedience they were meant to prepare you for.
How can you tell whether you need wisdom or courage?
Ask yourself these questions:
- Would this step require me to violate Scripture or act without integrity?
- Have I ignored important facts, responsibilities, or wise counsel?
- Am I still unclear about the next step, or am I afraid of what the step may cost?
- Have I created a real time to decide, or have I left the decision open forever?
- If fear were quiet for ten minutes, what would I already know to do?
These questions do not prove that every idea came from God. They help you tell the difference between careful discernment and fear wearing church clothes.
BRICK principle: Wisdom prepares a step. Fear keeps moving the starting line.
What does fear sound like when it wants to look wise?
It sounds responsible.
“I need one more confirmation.”
“I will start when things calm down.”
“I need the whole plan first.”
“Maybe I should take one more course.”
“I am just waiting on God.”
Sometimes those words are true. Sometimes you really do need to wait, learn, save, heal, or prepare.
But sometimes “waiting on God” means you hope God will remove every risk so you never have to feel afraid.
He may not do that.
Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is refusing to make fear your final authority.
What is the smallest faithful step?
You do not need to build the whole wall today. Lay one brick.
Your brick may be:
- Writing the first page
- Naming the offer
- Calling the person
- Opening the account
- Setting a price you can explain honestly
- Making the first simple version
- Choosing a date and telling someone who will hold you to it
The first brick does not have to impress anyone. It has to exist.
That is one reason I created Power to Wealth. It gives you a place to begin when the calling feels bigger than the step in front of you.
What if you move and realize you were wrong?
Then you correct the direction.
Faithful movement is not the same as reckless movement. You can begin small enough to learn. You can ask for counsel while you move. You can pay attention to fruit, facts, capacity, and conviction.
You are not signing a contract with every idea you test.
But you also cannot steer something that never leaves the driveway.
You may have enough to take the next step
I cannot tell you from a webpage that every idea in your heart came from God.
I can tell you this: if you have tested the direction and the next faithful step is clear, do not keep asking for a sign just because obedience makes you nervous.
Fear does not get to hold your calling hostage.
Write down the step. Make it smaller. Put it on the calendar. Tell one wise person. Then do what you said.
