What koach actually means
and why it changes everything

I have read Deuteronomy 8:18 more times than I can count. I have heard it taught in church. I have written it in journals. I have said it out loud over my life when things were hard and I needed to believe something was coming.

And for a long time I read it the way most people read it. As a promise about money. As a promise that God would eventually show up with the resource and the breakthrough and the financial favor I had been praying for. I was waiting for the dollar to drop.

Then I looked at the Hebrew. And everything changed.

The word is koach. And it does not mean money.

The Hebrew word translated as power in that verse is koach. And koach does not mean financial ability. It does not mean a windfall. It does not mean favor in the form of a check or a contract or a door opening.

Koach means strength. It means capacity. It means stamina. It means the ability to keep going when the going makes no sense. It means skill that has been built through seasons of doing the work even when the work felt like it was going nowhere.

God did not hand you a dollar. He handed you everything you would need to build something that lasts longer than a single financial moment.

The strength was never coming later. It was always already here. God was building koach in you the whole time.

What koach looks like in a real life

Think about every hard season you have survived. Every business you built without a roadmap. Every skill you learned because the assignment required it and you had no one to teach you. Every time you kept showing up when everything in you wanted to stop and quietly go back to something safer.

That was not wasted time. That was koach being built in you. Not given to you later. Built in you now. For this.

In 2020 I built a luxury photography business from nothing. Six figures. Built with God. I did not go to school for it. I did not have a mentor who held my hand through the process. Every skill I needed showed up when the assignment required it. Systems. Strategy. Branding. Production. Client experience. I learned all of it in the fire.

At the time I thought I was just grinding. Looking back I understand what was actually happening. God was building koach in me. He was building the capacity I would need for the next assignment I could not yet see.

Why this matters if you are building right now

If you have been faithful and the visible results are not matching what you feel in your spirit, this is the word I want you to sit with. Koach.

You have not been waiting for nothing. You have been in a season of koach being formed. The strength you have built through the hard seasons is not a side effect of the delay. It is the point of it. God was never going to hand you the assignment without first building the capacity to carry it.

The woman who has never lost anything does not know how to build in the fire. The woman who has never had to figure it out alone does not know how to teach others to do the same. The woman who received everything easily has not developed the stamina that sustained building requires.

You have koach because you have been through something. That is not a consolation prize. That is the actual gift.

The building years are not the background story

We have been taught to think of the hard seasons as the before picture. The story we tell once we arrive somewhere better. But koach reframes that completely.

The hard season is not the before. It is the build. The capacity being formed in you right now is not preparation for the assignment. It is part of the assignment.

God does not waste a season. Every skill you picked up in the fire, every problem you solved without a template, every time you had to figure it out because no one else was going to, that is koach. And it is yours. Nobody can take it from you because nobody gave it to you but God.

So what do you do with this

Stop reading Deuteronomy 8:18 as a promise that something is coming. Start reading it as a declaration that something is already here.

The power to gain wealth is not a future deposit. It is the strength, capacity, and skill God has already built in you through every season you survived. You are not waiting for it. You are walking in it right now. Even when it does not feel like it. Even when the numbers do not reflect it yet. Even when you are tired.

Koach is present tense. And so are you.
